Tell us a bit about your background/career path. What led you to start your calligraphy business?
I held a desk job for a few years and then left the corporate world to be a full time mom. I love being a mom and watching my kids grow, but I still wanted something to occupy my little bit of free time. I remembered back when I made my save-the-dates and invitations for my own wedding and how much I loved doing it. (Too bad beautiful calligraphy and wedding signage wasn’t a trend back then) I tried my hand at calligraphy, loved every second of doing it, and decided that I wanted to help other people incorporate this type of art into their weddings and homes! That’s when LoneStar Letter was born.

What do you love about working with brides to design special elements for their wedding?
bride is different and has her own unique and individual style. I love that! It’s such a fun process to hear about a bride’s vision for her big day and help be a small part of bringing it to life.

What calligraphy elements would you encourage all brides to incorporate into their wedding?
Signage is my favorite! Signs are such a great way to incorporate your couple style on your wedding day and everyone gets a chance to see it. Invitation addressing is another favorite because all guests love getting those fancy envelopes in the mail with their names on them. It’s a nice way to start showing your friends and family how much you appreciate them being a part of your best day ever.

Do you have a favorite piece you’ve created for a bride? Tell us about it!
I love all of the pieces my brides have chosen for their weddings, but one of my favorites to create is the 1 Corinthians 13 aisle runner signs. I recently was able to create a set of 10 that measured 20×24 inches. I absolutely loved that my bride wanted such big statement pieces down the aisle! What a beautiful reminder (for not only the bride and groom but all of their friends and family) of what love really is all about as you say “I do.”

What’s your advice for brides on a budget?
I like to stick to a budget myself, so I understand making things as perfect as possible with what you have! My advice to brides who are carefully choosing services for their wedding is to think about the elements that you personally cannot leave out. For some, it’s the welcome sign that they can hang in their home afterwards, for others it’s the place cards to show their friends and family how much they appreciate every single one of them! Choose those important elements first, fit them into your budget, and then build on from there.

What is the biggest piece of advice you’d give a bride as she selects calligraphy details for her wedding?
Think outside of the box! If you’re the type of bride who wants to incorporate calligraphy into her wedding day there are many ways to do it beyond your invitations, envelopes and signs. Aisle/table runners or photo backdrops with calligraphy on them make such an impression on your guests and are another great way to make your wedding stand out.
