King Family Session at the Lumen Room | Dallas Family Photographer

There is something deeply meaningful about photographing a couple on their wedding day and then being invited back to document the family their love has grown into. When John reached out to plan a family session at The Lumen Room in Dallas with their 5 month old son, Canaan, as a Christmas gift for Jillian, I felt so grateful. Photographing the beginning of their marriage was an honor. Photographing them now as parents felt just as sacred.

This session came at a particularly sweet moment for their family. With John preparing to head off to spring training for the upcoming baseball season, it felt special to slow down and capture these quiet days together before long stretches of travel begin. There is something tender about documenting togetherness right before a season of movement.

The Lumen Room was filled with soft, beautiful light that felt perfectly suited for this chapter of life. Jillian and John held Canaan with such tenderness and ease, the kind that comes from learning each other day by day. There were quiet snuggles, gentle smiles, and those fleeting little expressions that change almost overnight at this age.

Canaan was curious and content, soaking in the world around him while safely tucked into his parents’ arms. These early months move so quickly, and sessions like this are a reminder of how important it is to preserve them. We kept things relaxed and natural, allowing space for connection and letting the moments unfold without rush.

Watching Jillian and John step into parenthood with so much warmth and intention was a joy to photograph. Their family session felt like a continuation of a story I was already honored to tell, one that began on their wedding day and is now growing in the most beautiful way. These images are more than portraits. They are a record of love expanding, of new rhythms being formed, and of a family fully present together in a fleeting season before life picks up speed again.
