I have always loved stationery. I was about 15 (back when AOL was a thing!), I would sit for hours researching different types of paper, stamps and printing techniques. Sounds weird, but I have always loved paper!! However it wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I considered it for an actual business.
. . .
I love hearing about a couple’s “big picture” for their day! Often clients will get really excited and show me not just stationery ideas, but their ideas for florals, decor, the wedding party attire and wedding cake. I love seeing all of these things because it gives me an idea of their style and how I can contribute and add enhancement through stationery!
. . .
My inspiration comes from all things creative! Fashion and costumes, architecture, art….anything that makes my heart flutter.
. . .
I always try to incorporate contrast and balance in my work. I love using fonts and colors that communicate the right feel but also work in harmony with each other. I go for more classic designs, and then add at a little flair at the end!
. . .
Start with what your absolute must-haves and prioritize from that point. Also, think about the overall experience you want guests to have and what really will make that come alive. Those are the things you should spend the most on!
. . .
You should always ask your stationer about turn around time. Often brides leave invitations towards the middle of the “to do list”. It really should be one of the first things you start on! You want to leave time for design, edit and materials (especially if you are doing acrylic, letterpress or foil) and of course mailing. And don’t forget – around the holidays you will need extra time!
. . .
It’s extremely important to find a stationer who’s design aesthetic fits the vision you have for your wedding or event. Often brides will have an idea in mind that they saw on Pinterest or Instagram and then go out and hire a stationer based on cost-effectiveness instead of considering if their vision matches the type of work that stationer does.
