Y’all, being a part of Hannah & Jermaine’s proposal was SO special. These two are near and dear to my heart, and I loved watching them decide to enter into a season of engagement. They love, serve, and care for one another well (and everyone around them, am I right?!), and I’m so excited to get to share their engagement story with you!
Jermaine designed the ring and asked Hannah’s parents’ permission and planned the proposal and Hannah had NO idea! Her one prerequisite to getting engaged was that she wanted it to be a surprise. And he pulled it off! Jermaine & Hannah, Matt & I love you guys. We’re praying fiercely over your marriage and over this season of engagement. And without further delay – here’s Jermaine’s version of the proposal!

In preparation for the big day (April 28th), I had gotten permission & blessing from Hannah’s parents, procured a ring she would love, bought us plane tickets to Austin and played it cool so she wouldn’t suspect a thing. Not only was April 28th the day I would propose, but it also marked the 1 year anniversary of our dating relationship. I decided to do something special for our anniversary by printing 49 pictures from our year of dating. On the back of each picture I wrote a little note. Some notes were funny, some were longer and covered heavier topics or epic moments. I split these pictures up into 5 envelopes that I would give to her throughout the day to celebrate a year of dating. Little did she know that the last envelope would contain a letter describing all the reasons why I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.
Our friends Matt & Sami Bruemmer took us to the airport when no one should be awake and we set off on a day of fun. But what Hannah didn’t know was that Sami would be hopping on a plane about an hour later to head down to Austin to set up the proposal spot and be ready to take pictures. So, we got to Austin, got some amazing coffee & breakfast tacos, went hiking, hammocking, listened to music, talked and laughed. One of Hannah’s favorite things is long days outside so she was enjoying every moment.
That afternoon I told her we would get cleaned up and walk up to the top of Mount Bonnell real quick and then head off to dinner before getting back to Dallas. When we got to the top of Mount Bonnell I walked us over to our favorite spot overlooking the river. Of course, a picnic blanket & basket awaited us. I gave her the final envelope which included 9 pictures and the letter I had written her. We sat down as she read, then stood up for the moment. I can’t remember exactly what I said, but it was something about her loving Jesus more than anything, being patient, kind, humble, compassionate, teachable, joyful, a great listener and an intentional lover of others in addition to being absolutely beautiful!
I got down on one knee and asked the woman of my prayers to be my wife and she said yes! Let’s go!
