There is something especially meaningful about photographing a family’s story from the very beginning. Watching a couple become parents is one of my favorite parts of this work, and welcoming baby Charlie into the world felt like such a full-circle moment.

I’ve had the joy of documenting Emily and Peter’s story for years – from their engagement session at Lakeside Park & Prather Park, to Emily’s bridal portraits at Arlington Hall, to their rehearsal dinner at Terry Black’s BBQ, and their beautiful wedding day at Christ the King Catholic Church and the Arts District Mansion. Now, seeing them step into parenthood with their sweet baby boy was an incredible honor.

Their in-home newborn session in Highland Park was everything I hope these mornings can be. The nursery was filled with soft light, Charlie was perfectly content nestled in his parents’ arms, and there was no rush to be anywhere else. We spent our time capturing the little moments they’ll want to remember years from now – tiny fingers wrapped around Mom’s hand, sleepy stretches, proud smiles, and the quiet joy that fills a home when a new baby arrives.

Emily and Peter have always been such kind, thoughtful people, and it was so evident how naturally they have embraced this new season. The tenderness between them, the way they looked at Charlie, and the excitement they carried into every photograph made this session so special. Baby Charlie is already so deeply loved.

One of the things I love most about in-home newborn sessions is that they preserve more than just what your baby looked like. They capture the home where your family began, the nursery you carefully prepared, and the ordinary moments that quickly become the memories you treasure most. Years from now, these photographs will remind Charlie not only of how tiny he once was, but of the overwhelming love that surrounded him from his very first days.

Emily and Peter, thank you for inviting me into yet another chapter of your lives. It has been such a gift to walk alongside your family through so many milestones, and I cannot wait to watch Charlie grow.
